How to Install Retail Mac Os X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion on Asus P8B75-M LX + update to 10.8.4

Asus

This computer was bought from a local store as a finished build configuration for less than 500 Euros.  I didn’t intend to create Hackintosh so I didn’t care about components at first, but computer had a some kind of BIOS error and I couldn’t shutdown from ubuntu 12.04, than I tried Ubuntu 10.04 with the same result. After that I tried Windows 7 and computer was still unable to shutdown.

Then I read on some forum that fix is to put out and back BIOS battery. And voila computer was able to shutdown like normal. Interesting thing is that this happened on a new mainboard, with the default BIOS settings… so I asume it’s a some kind of Asus mainboard bug.Anyway at the end I  found out that my components, Main board ASUS – P8B75-M LX, Graphics card Nvidia GTX 650 and Intel i3 3220CPU, are 100% compatible with Os X 10.8 so I decided to give it a try… lucky me 🙂

Requirements:
– Mac Os X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (download from app store, or try search torrents if just wanna test if your system is capable to run Os X. Os X Mountain Lion costs only 20$, so buy it…)

Network Driver (Realtek® 8111F-VB-CG)
myHack
– Kext utility

This tutorial is for educational purposes only. You, of course, assume all responsibility for choosing to follow this tutorial. Also, OS X EULA states that you can run Lion on Apple labeled hardware only.

First of all you will need to create your Bootable Mountain Lion USB Installer. Follow this tutorial to find out how to create bootable Mountain Lion USB installer using myHack.

Once you create myHack USB installer navigate to /Extra folder and change org.chameleon.Boot.plist like below (before editing, copy file to your desktop, and when edited save it and copy back to Extra folder to replace the old file)

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>dart=0</string>
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>2</string>
<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>Yes</string>

Note : For MSI GTX 650 change GraphicsEnabler from Yes to No in /Extra folder (for other Graphics cards maybe you can leave it as it is).

Unplug any hard disk, except one you are using for OSX install… The same thing is with PCI cards, remove any PCI cards except your graphics card.

Plug in your ML USB Installer in USB 2.0 port (do not use USB 3.0 ports).

Start computer and go to your BIOS by pressing del key at boot.

UEFI BIOS Settings:
With default settings, in Advanced mode under Sata Configuration select Sata as AHCI, the rest is optional but you should consider to enable Intel Virtualization Technology under Advanced / CPU settings.
F10 to Save UEFI BIOS and exit.

Again at boot press F8 and select your USB disk as boot device

Installation should start quickly, select your language, agree to the terms and from the top menu select Disk Utility. Here you should see all hard drives connected to your computer. Pick the one you want to install Mountain Lion on and select the Partition tab. In options select GUID Partition Table then choose Mac OS Extended Journaled as the format and name it HDD or whatever u like. Then click Apply.
Close Disk Utility and go through the installer. When it comes to the install screen just pick your HDD and then click install. This will take some time so be patient. At the end of installation, you will be notified by myHack to select your dsdt, use myHack default (This new generation of  motherboard uses UEFI Bios so DSDT.aml in not needed anymore), and after that delete ApplePolicyControl.kext, AppleTyMCEDriver.kext and AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext from your HDD (backup will be created inside of /Extra folder called RemovedExtensions).

After installation finishes reboot back into myHack USB drive using F8 key. At Chameleon boot select your HDD to boot from instead of ML Installer, type “dart=0 -f″ without quotes (just in case) and then continue with your boot.

At the OS X first boot don’t select network when asked about internet connection otherwise you will be returned at the start of the conversation.

When Os X ML starts go to Applications / System Preferences / Security & Privacy, unlock it to make changes and under General tab select Allow applications downloaded from Anywhere.

Replace org.chameleon.Boot.plist file from /Extra folder on your HDD with the one from /Extra folder on the myHack USB  (the one you edited before).

Download (if u didn’t already) and install Realtek® 8111F-VB-CG LAN driver / kext.

Also download VIA VT1708S kext (VoodooHDA) and copy it to your /System/Library/Extensions folder. Run Kext utility and restart your computer.

If Using SSD Disk install Trim Enabler to enable SSD trim option and keep your SSD drive fast and healthy. Restart again to enable trim.

Nvidia GTX 650 card will be recognised as NVIDIA D14P1-30 until you install original Nvidia driver . Also GTX 650 supports Nvidia CUDA drivers  mostly used for video editing and games, otherwise you can skip this step.

Restart your computer without of USB Install media.

10.8.4 Update

Before update to latest 10.8.4 back up AppleHDA.kext and  VoodooHDA VT1708S.kext from  /System/Library/Extensions folder

Update to 10.8.4 via native Software Update, after update put back AppleHDA.kext and  VoodooHDA VT1708S.kext in  /System/Library/Extensions folder and  run kext utility once again.

And some About This Mac screenshots of working Os X 10.8.4 ML on Asus P8B75-M LX with MSI Nvidia GTX 650 1G DDR5 graphics card:

Happy Hackintoshing 🙂

  1. hi, i just have one problem, with all my tests & installation of mac os, everything went smooth from 10.6 – 10.8.3……….my problem is that i cant come right with updates, if you can help me, also i dont not whats native updates, only when i run updates & it reboots my pc get kernel panic

    1. I suppose that native update is update when you click on apple in upper left corner and select “Software Update…” You should try combo update cause there is no need to restart computer immediately after update, so you can fix or remove certain kexts before restart.
Combo update is available at Apple website – http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1658

Will OS X working on my PC ?

    1. everything looks good, just follow tutorial and before check your graphics card, search google “nVidia g210 hackintosh”

  3. Hello, friend! I Help me please! I do the same thing that you describe at this post. I have the same hardware, install osx 10.8.3+myHack to usb flash. After installing -> Reboot -> my HDD + dart=0 -f -> CPU Caller Panic…

      1. It should work, BUT I have face a problem. The 1st – CPU Caller Panic, 2nd – unknown CPU model 0x3a. If you have the same problem please turn to me for help.

        1. Did u tried to enable or disable Intel Virtualization Technology under Advanced / CPU settings in BIOS.

          1. Yes, I tried to enable/disable iVT/Speedstep/Cores (1 or all) and nothing to change. I don’t know why your installation is succesfull, because the problem obviously in AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.

        2. By default, Asus motherboards are not unlocked unlike Gigabyte (when you install OSX using Gigabyte, sleep and hibernate work by default). Thus, OSX will not recognize your CPU model and you will have to install the NullCPUPowerManagement kext. The only way to avoid this is to flash your BIOS with an unlocked version.

  4. Hello Murdah

Very nice work on this hackintosh, many thanks!

i use same config and my old hd5750 vapor X but install Niresh 12495

Working well exept sleep can wake up stay in black screen ….

    What about yours ?

  5. Hi, thanks for sharing your successful experience. Pardon my ignorance, I have a spare ASUS P8H77 -M LE, do you think it has any chance to be turned into a hackintosh just like you demonstrated?

  6. Hi murdah!
Thanks for guide! Really helpful! Works perfect!

But what is about USB 3.0 support? Any kexts?
I have iPad3, but hack can’t change this one. If I understand rightly, ipad can’t be changed by USB 2.0 and my v3.0 works as v2.0 without kexts.

PS Also works on my Asus P8B75-M (without LX)

  7. I have a Win7 PC (Phenom II x4) that doesn’t wake from Sleep (black screen). I thought it was always a BIOS/Graphics Driver problem. Now I see it may be the card itself 🙁

Luckily I am buying a new machine tomorrow (Gateway Core i5 – P67A-GD55) which (hopefully) shouldn’t have this problem.

I want to install Lion 10.7.5 on this machine (first), but I am worried about the GTX 650 OC. Any word on this working correctly at all in Lion 10.7.x?

  8. Hi there thank you for this guide. I don’t seem to be able to make this work. I go through all the steps and Install ML but after installation and reboot I do not get the chameleon bootloader. If I boot into USB it takes me to the beginning of the installation again. Any ideas?

    1. UPDATE:
After repeating the process a couple of times I do get the chameleon bootloader but after choosing Mountain Lion on my HDD (using the suggested flags) it goes to the Apple logo and I can see the progress bar you get on first boot after installation but before it gets to the middle it goes black 🙁

    1. I updated it via softwate update, everything works fine, you just need to reinstall sound kext after update…

  9. Great!
your awesome tutorial helped a lot and works perfect for me.
Used it with latest retail ML 10.8.5 downloaded from Appstore.
